The importance of prioritising digital identity as part of your cybersecurity strategy.

I was recently inspired to think about how identity is perceived and used after listening to Eminem’s rap song, “The Way I Am” specifically the chorus “And I am whatever you say I am, If I wasn’t, then why would I say I am?”. Who would have thought Eminem could inspire thinking on digital identity?

The NZ Post’s eCommerce review for 2022 showed online spending reached $6.07 billion with just under 53.9 million online transactions, averaging 147,655 per day. This increased use of online channels increases our reliance on digital identities. Research by DINZ reflected our attitudes about who is responsible for the security of digital identities in Aotearoa. Despite the obvious benefits of making digital identity a priority, it is often at the mercy of the latest technology buzzwords. Implementing a digital identity strategy can help to:

  1. enable digital transformation through secure and seamless access to online services
  2. improve user experience by making it easier to securely access online services
  3. support regulatory compliance efforts
  4. prevent unauthorised access to networks, systems and data
  5. help to reduce the cost and impact of cybersecurity incidents by detecting and responding to incidents quicker.

Prioritising digital identity as part of your cybersecurity strategy, greatly reduces the risk of data breaches, identity theft, and other evolving cyber threats.

So what are you waiting for?
